How can I find a good contractor?

• Check on the contractor's license status at: www.cslb.ca.gov
• Make sure no complaints have been registered with the Contractor's State License Board at: www.cslb.ca.gov
• Interview the contractor and ask in-depth questions about his business structure, practices, and experience.
• Ask to see a sample of his proposal. It should be composed of very detailed specifications regarding every aspect of the project.
• Ask to see a sample of his contract. It should conform to all regulations set by the California State License Board.
• Ask to see a copy of the contractor's state license. The contractor should carry a wallet size copy of the license at all times.
• Ask the contractor who is responsible for obtaining the building permits and all inspection approvals? This is the contractor's responsibility! Only contractors with an active and current license may obtain building permits on another individual's property.
• Does the contractor dress neatly and present himself/herself in a professional business like manner? Neatness and professionalism count in every aspect of a project.
